Yes - an iPhone and an Android phone pair with the free SayCheese app. One phone is the camera and the other a live remote with a shutter button - the Android starts as the camera, you can swap the roles any time, and every photo saves on both phones. Your friend's platform stopped being a problem.
Does SayCheese connect an iPhone to an Android phone?
Yes. Mixed pairs work: on the Android tap Connect an iPhone to show a QR code, scan it with the iPhone, and the two phones link directly - no internet, no shared Wi-Fi network, no account.
Same-platform pairs (iPhone with iPhone, Android with Android) still find each other automatically, exactly as before. The QR code is only the handshake for the mixed pair - because the two platforms can't see each other on their own, SayCheese draws the bridge for them.
How do you pair an iPhone with an Android phone?
Show the code, scan the code, tap Join. It takes about a minute the first time and every step is written on the screens.
- Install SayCheese on both phones. Free on Google Play for the Android and the App Store for the iPhone.
- On the Android, tap "Connect an iPhone". It's right on the search screen - a QR code appears.
- On the iPhone, tap "Connect an Android phone" and point the camera at the code.
- Tap Join when the iPhone asks. It hops onto the camera phone's own local network for the session, and hops back to your usual Wi-Fi when you're done.
- Shoot. The live view fills the iPhone; tap the shutter, record video, and both phones keep every capture in full quality.
Which phone is the camera?
The Android starts as the camera and the iPhone as the remote - and you can swap roles mid-session from the remote, no re-pairing needed.
Prop the Android up on a shelf or a tripod, walk away with the iPhone, and frame the shot from the live preview. Fancy it the other way around? One tap swaps the jobs.
Do you need internet or a shared Wi-Fi network?
No. The iPhone joins the Android's own local network for the session - it works in a park, on a hike, anywhere. The iPhone returns to your usual Wi-Fi by itself afterwards.
Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed, same as every other SayCheese setup.
What can you do once they're connected?
Everything a same-platform pair can: live preview, photo and video, flash, timer, zoom - and every capture saves in full quality on both phones.
The full story of shooting with a two-phone setup - propping, framing, voice capture - is in the phone camera guide. And if there's a watch on your wrist, the watch guide puts the shutter there instead.
