Privacy policy

Your photos stay yours

How the SayCheese apps handle your photos, videos and data. Effective October 31, 2026.

This privacy policy explains how SayCheese and SayCheese Watch Remote for iPhone and Android, and the SayCheese apps for Garmin watches and Apple Watch (together, "the apps"), handle information. The apps are developed and operated by Yoav Franko ("I", "me"), who is responsible for the processing of personal information described here (the "controller"). Contact: yoav.francoo@gmail.com.

By using the apps, you acknowledge this policy. If you don't agree with it, please don't use the apps.

The short version

  • Your photos and videos are taken and saved on your own devices. They are never uploaded to me.
  • There are no user accounts, and I don't sell your personal information.
  • The optional Garmin HD preview sends small live-preview images over the internet. They are kept in memory for at most 15 seconds and then deleted, and you can turn the feature off.
  • The apps use a few service providers for crash reports, usage statistics, ads (in the free version of SayCheese) and purchases. They are listed below.

Information the apps handle

Photos, videos, camera and microphone. The apps use your camera to take photos and videos, and your microphone to record video sound and, in SayCheese, for voice commands. Photos and videos are saved on your phone, or on the phone acting as the camera when you use two phones. I don't receive them.

Connections between your devices. When two phones, or a phone and a watch, work together, they communicate directly over Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, your local network or Apple's watch connection. The live preview and the photos you take travel only between your own devices. On Garmin watches, these messages pass through Garmin's Garmin Connect app on your phone.

Voice commands. Voice commands in SayCheese are recognized on your phone by an offline speech model. Your voice is not recorded or sent anywhere. The model file is downloaded once from GitHub the first time you use voice commands.

Garmin HD preview. Garmin watches can only receive full-color pictures from the internet. While HD preview is on and your phone is online:

  • your phone sends small live-preview images, the size of your watch screen, to a relay server I operate on Cloudflare, over an encrypted (https) connection. Saved photos and videos are never sent this way;
  • the relay keeps only the newest image, in memory only. It is never written to disk, is deleted within 15 seconds, and the relay keeps no logs of these requests;
  • each session uses a random, unguessable address known only to your phone, your watch and Garmin's image service;
  • your watch fetches the images through Garmin's image service, which resizes them for your watch and is operated by Garmin under Garmin's privacy policy.

You can turn HD preview off at any time under Settings > HD preview, on the phone or on the watch. Without it, or without internet, the preview uses Bluetooth only.

Crash reports. If an app crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics collects technical information such as your device model, operating system version, app version, the app's settings at the time, the time of the error and a pseudonymous identifier for your app installation. Your IP address is processed by Google to deliver the report.

Usage statistics. Google Analytics for Firebase collects pseudonymous usage data, such as which features are used, together with an app-installation identifier, device and operating system information and an approximate location (country or region) derived from your IP address. It does not include your name, email or photos.

Advertising (free version of SayCheese). Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which may collect device information, your IP address, ad interactions and, on Android, your device's advertising ID, and may use them to show and measure ads. On iPhone, the apps don't ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps, so Apple's advertising identifier is not available to them. Premium users don't see ads.

Purchases. In-app purchases in SayCheese are processed by Apple or Google. RevenueCat helps me manage them using an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase and subscription records. I never receive your payment card details.

Settings and support. Your app settings are stored on your device. If you email me, I use your email address and message only to reply.

How and why the information is used

I use the information above only to provide and improve the apps:

  • to provide features you ask for, such as the live preview, HD preview and purchases (performance of a contract);
  • to keep the apps working, secure and free of bugs, and to understand which features are used (my legitimate interests in running and improving the apps);
  • to show ads in the free version of SayCheese (my legitimate interest in funding the free version, and your consent where the law requires it);
  • to comply with legal obligations and enforce my rights, where needed.

Sharing

I don't sell your personal information. I share information only with the service providers listed below, who process it on my behalf or under their own policies, and when the law requires it (for example, to respond to a valid legal request). If the apps are ever transferred to another owner, this policy will continue to apply to information collected under it.

International transfers

These providers may process information on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, they use recognized safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long information is kept

  • HD preview images: in memory only, deleted within 15 seconds.
  • Crash reports: kept by Firebase Crashlytics for about 90 days.
  • Usage statistics: kept under Google Analytics' retention settings, then deleted or aggregated.
  • Purchase records: kept by Apple, Google and RevenueCat as long as needed to provide your purchases and as required by law.
  • Support emails: as long as needed to handle your request.

Your choices and rights

You can turn off HD preview in the app's settings, manage the app's camera, microphone and photo permissions in your device settings, and reset or delete your Android advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads in your device's ad settings. Uninstalling an app stops all further collection by it.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal information, to data portability, and to withdraw any consent you gave. Residents of the EU, the UK and Israel can also complain to their data protection authority. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. I don't sell personal information, and you can limit ad-related sharing through your device's ad settings. I won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

To exercise a right, email yoav.francoo@gmail.com. Because the apps have no accounts, I hold very little information that identifies you; I'll help you with any request, including requests to the providers above, and reply within 30 days.

Children

The apps are not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country. I don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact me and I'll delete it.

Security

I protect information with encrypted connections, by keeping as little of it as possible and by keeping HD preview images in memory only. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so I can't guarantee absolute security.

Third-party services and links

The apps rely on third-party services, such as Garmin Connect and the app stores, and may link to other websites. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle your information, and I'm not responsible for their practices.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The newest version is always at https://saycheese.yfranko.com/privacy, with its effective date. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, I'll highlight it on this page or in the apps. Continuing to use the apps after an update means you accept it.

Effective date: October 31, 2026.
